46 faculty members get Best University Teacher Award
While evaluating the meritorious services of academicians for improving academic atmosphere in their respective institutions, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has conferred Best University Teacher Award on 46 faculty members of public sector universities.
According to details, for the year 2009, 94 nominations were received from 47 public sector universities and degree awarding institutions. After scrutiny, 46 teachers were selected for award that comprises a Certificate of Merit and a cash prize of Rs 100,000 each.
National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Education Member Begum Nuzhat Sadiq was the chief guest at the awards ceremony. She said that recognition is a driving force for putting in more efforts to achieve further excellence.
HEC Chairperson Dr Javaid Laghari said that faculty was the heart of any university and reputation of the institution depended on its performance. He said universities were supposed to build communities and economies, but it was not possible without proactive contribution of teachers. Dr Laghari urged the faculty members to ensure that the quality of teaching and research improves constantly. He also underlined the importance of a strong linkage between universities and the industry.
