PTCL issues LoI to KHL for GPON nationwide
STAFF REPORT ISLAMABAD: GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) is a latest technology in a broadband to deliver triple-play to the subscriber’s doorstep using optical fiber cable as a media and the PTCL has issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) to KHL for the outdoor network network. This blazing fast network will provide its customers with the most advanced (voice, video and data) services, such as high-definition television, innovative telephony services and ultra band Internet access.
GPON (ITU-T G.984) supports higher rates, enhanced security, and choice of Layer 2 protocol (ATM, GEM, Ethernet). In first phase also known commonly as “trail phase’ the ISP (In side plant) the active components of the network, is awarded to Huawei in South and Ericson in Central & North Pakistan.
The outdoor network (ODN) implementation nationwide is considered to be most tedious and expensive part in such type of deployments. KHL has won this based on its expertise in ODN implementations as well as now being the largest leading vendor with such an experience in Pakistan & in International Markets, said an official of the KHL
