STAFF REPORT ISLAMABAD: Germany has pledged to provide all technical assistance to Pakistan in its efforts to overcome the energy crisis as well as solve the potable water especially in remote and rural areas.
Most recently, a solar power hand pump donated by the German embassy to the National Centre for Rural Development (NCRD), has been inaugurated at the NCRD premises.
Stephen Roken, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany, said on the occasion that his country would offer all assistance to Pakistan in exploring the alternate energy options, “as we fully understands that the prevailing energy crisis in Pakistan is hampering the economic development of the country.”
The Solar Hand Pump is specifically designed to meet the needs of water for drinking and cooking for off-grid small community living. The pump can meet the everyday water needs of 500 people at an operating cost of Rs. two per litre.
